Works for me and my dog, 2008-06-04
Although my dog is only 9lbs, I needed as large a tray as I could find that had a raised edge. My dog is 16 YO and was used to a spread of newspapers on a large garbage bag. Even folding up the edges of the papers didn't always keep the urine from sometimes running off the edge or ensure my dog would get her rear over the edge of the plastic.
I think I checked out every puppy paper tray and dog toilet box there is on the web. For the price, this seemed the best item overall. I was right. The Iris tray is sturdy, easy to use and super easy to clean. I needed a good size that wasn't hard to move around since I live in a split level. (She can't go down stairs.) The edges couldn't be too high or wide for her to adapt to.
I use newspapers in mine. I just have to position them right and tear and fold a small bit here and there. I've even just laid them inside the tray over the bars, and that works fine for my dog. I'd say rambunctious puppies probably need the papers locked under the bars.
I purchased the largest tray 35.5 X 23 and crossed my fingers it would work. My dog adapted to this tray immediately. Even during a temporary urinary tract problem she always used the tray. I have no more runoff problems. If only this product had been available years ago!
I recommend this product highly.

Not for my puppy, 2008-04-27
My dog only used this a few times. If she peed too close to the edge, it leaked out between the sides and onto the carpet. If you fold it up to move it, it is clumsy because there is no way to fasten it closed.
Would not recommend it for a small dog.

Training pads, 2008-04-16
This is an excellent product. One of those things I wish I had thought of! Easy to clean and use, my little Shih Tzu never misses anymore. I bought the large size because I knew there may be some work days when I might not make it home on time. Sometimes I use two small pads so I only have to change one and not waste a large pad, as I don't like to leave wet spots sitting around too long when I am home. For me at least, this was money well spent. Looks much nicer too. Like it belongs there and not just papers thrown down as an after-thought.

Great Invention, 2008-03-20
As my Yorkies got into their senior years, incontinence problems started, so I trained them to pee pads if they couldn't hold between trips outside. Worked very well, but sometimes aim wasn't quite centered, and the wetness ran under the pad. This tray is a brilliant idea. It is much more substantial than it looks in the picture. The plastic is slightly flexible, not brittle thin, so it should last for many years. My first two "senior citizens" passed away, and I have an 8-year old left. She learned from them, occasionally can't make it through the night, and this was a gift for both uf us. After putting the pad into the tray, she stepped right into it (not afraid), sniffed, and understood. She hasn't had to use it yet, but it's there for her. It holds the edges down perfectly. I imagine it would hold newspapers, but I don't want ink on paws and tile, so I will continue to use pads. You may want to consider hospital supply pads of the same size. You can purchase in bulk, making it more cost effective than pet pads.
